Test Your Knowledge of Homelessness
Project Mission
This journalism lab exists to raise awareness, educate the public, and provide in-depth reporting on housing challenges, homelessness, and policy solutions. We invite you to join us on a journey of dispelling myths and stereotypes about homelessness so together we can manifest meaningful change for our neighbors in Central Oregon.
About Us
Our Funder
This 18-month special assignment is funded by a $190,000 grant from the Central Oregon Health Council. FORJ was selected by COHC to unite partners to lift voices of people experiencing homelessness, shift stereotypes and uncover insights for supporting real solutions in our community.
JLab Staff
Our JLab staff is a seasoned team made up of an editor, reporter, and photographer with extra support from Central Oregon Daily News to produce video content. Journalists on the team have extensive prior experience reporting on homelessness, housing and land-use, rural and urban issues and government affairs.
Advisory Board
Our advisors are community partners working closely with houseless community members and impacted people with lived experience. Members represent youth, social service agencies, government partners and housing providers and other organizations engaged in this important work.
What is FORJ?
FORJ is a leading journalism advocate providing tangible support for local publications to thrive. This FORJ Journalism Lab fulfills a major initiative of the nonprofit: to provide free, high-quality content to community members through media partnerships on an issue of great importance.
Project Guide
Our project guide is the framework for covering houseless community members with sensitivity and respect. The guide was developed with guidance and input from our advisory board and impacted community members. All our project partners are committed to upholding the principles in the guide.
